Reed Hundt Presentation of Knight Commission Report
With Day One of the Federal Trade Commission workshop on the future of journalism behind us, there’s already a lot to talk about and much to look forward to in Day Two. In addition to several high-powered panels, today’s agenda will feature former FCC chairman Reed Hundt’s presentation of the Knight Commission Report (see presentation below).
Check the agenda here and follow the proceedings on the FTC’s live webcast.
In all the coverage and blogging about Day One’s speakers, much of it focused on the speech of Rupert Murdoch and Arianna Huffington’s remarks attacking Murdoch’s positions, a related post stands out. David Westphal and Geoff Cowan’s article at USC’s Online Journalism Review, American Government: It’s always subsidized commercial media, points out the extent to which commercial media have always relied on government subsidies for success. It’s a topic worth considering as today’s sessions get under way, and will no doubt inform the work of the FTC as it continues with its inquiry on the future of journalism.
